I have been working with metal in one way or another since my first job at 17. It keeps drawing me back and now, in my 40's I have found what I was looking for. A way to artistically interact with metal with in-exhaustive possibilities. Using metal as my canvas, pieces are often free formed with minimal planning.
My self taught approach and experimentation allow me to push and learn the capabilities of materials, which in turn makes possible the creation of more informal and organic pieces.

Crystals, gemstones, both precious and semiprecious, mixed metals, texture and patination feature heavily in many of my works. Found objects and animal artefacts are also favourite materials. My silver and mixed metal based pieces are often a heavier style and statement pieces frequently include larger crystal gemstones or groups of stones.
The Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, the appreciation and acceptance of imperfection is an aspect of my artistic style that I am happy to acknowledge and if integral to the piece, wholly embrace.
I have in many areas of my life been an exponent of reusing and recycling. Being able to bring this ethos into my metal smithing allows me the pleasure of re-imagining sentimental, broken or unloved pieces. Using this process, a piece of history can perhaps be brought into the present and even taken into the future. Being given the trust of my clients to create these heirloom pieces is a true privilege.
